Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe: Masters of the Universe Found Its Kingdom on Streaming

Some films find their audience in a weekend. Masters of the Universe found its audience over a whole summer, then kept it. The film premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on May 18, 2026, arrived in United States theaters from Amazon MGM Studios on June 5, 2026, with Sony Pictures Releasing International handling international distribution, and then did something lovely. It went home with people, and stayed there.

On Prime Video, where it arrived on July 22, 2026, it became the platform’s No. 1 movie for five consecutive weeks. Five. In Nielsen’s rankings for the week of July 20 to 26 it was the most-watched title on any streaming service, with 1.17 billion minutes viewed. It also topped Prime Video charts in dozens of countries. Numbers like that do not happen by accident. They happen when families press play, then press play again.

An old hero, played with real warmth

Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam, who returns to his home planet Eternia as He-Man. The story is clean and heartfelt. After fifteen years stranded on Earth, Adam is called back to Eternia to reclaim the Sword of Power and defend his home. It is a homecoming story first and a spectacle second, and that order matters.

Galitzine plays Adam without a wink. That choice carries the film. He gives the prince a warmth that makes the bigger moments land, because you believe this young man misses his home and means it when he picks up the sword. In a genre that can drift toward irony, earnestness feels fresh. Here it feels right.

The company around him helps. Camila Mendes plays Teela with spirit and timing, Idris Elba plays Man-At-Arms with the kind of grounded authority that steadies every scene he enters, and Jared Leto plays Skeletor with full theatrical commitment. Alison Brie, James Purefoy and Morena Baccarin also star, and the ensemble has the easy chemistry of people who understood the assignment – play it straight, play it big, play it with heart.

Travis Knight and a hand-built feel

Director Travis Knight, working from a script by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee and David Callaham, gives Eternia a practical, crafted feel. Sets look built. Costumes look worn in, not printed out. The action reads clearly, which sounds basic until you notice how rare it has become.

The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, and watching it now, the reason is plain. It respects its source, it respects its audience, and it never apologises for being a fantasy adventure about courage and home. Knight talked about the film’s future this week while promoting his new film Wildwood, and fans will enjoy hearing how fondly he speaks of the experience.

Asked by ScreenRant about a sequel, Knight said such decisions are out of his control, that making the film was one of the most joyous experiences of his career, and that “if the universe, in its wisdom, asks us to make more of these things, we would be delighted to give them more.” Read that as openness, not a promise – a director who loved his cast and would happily return. After five weeks at No. 1, audiences would happily meet him there.

The 4K disc gives fans a reason to own it

A 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD edition has just been released this week, and it is a handsome package for collectors. The new 4K disc edition includes a behind-the-scenes gallery, a featurette and the trailers. The gallery is the treat here. Eternia rewards a close look, from the armour details to the castle work, and pausing a crisp disc transfer turns a living room into a small exhibition.

There is also something fitting about this film thriving on a disc. It is an old-school adventure in the best sense, the kind viewers used to keep on a shelf and lend to friends with instructions to report back. Its streaming run proved the love is broad. The disc lets that love be permanent.

Fantasy is having a generous moment on screen, from a dream cast gathering for Heat 2 in a very different register to family favourites returning in early plans for a fifth Halloweentown film. Masters of the Universe sits proudly in that company.

Verdict: a joyful adventure that earned its crown

This is a full-hearted recommendation. Masters of the Universe is warm, handsome and rousing, with a star turn from Galitzine, a strong ensemble, and a director who clearly adored the world he was building. Its second life with home audiences is not a footnote to its story. It is the story – a film that found its kingdom on streaming and on Prime Video, and now invites everyone back in glorious 4K.

Newcomers curious about Amazon MGM’s family slate can also look at Game of Pets heading to Amazon MGM Studios for another sign of where the studio is placing its bets. For tonight, though, the pick is simple. Raise the sword. Eternia is waiting, and it is a pleasure to go back.
