Disney saved one of its warmest moments for the coldest kingdom it owns. At D23 2026 in Anaheim, the studio confirmed that Frozen 3 opens with the event fans have been waiting for since 2019: Anna and Kristoff are getting married. The film arrives in theaters on November 24, 2027, and if the D23 presentation is any guide, Disney knows exactly what it has.

Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad appeared in person and performed live, singing a new version of Frozen Heart and debuting a new song, Samantha – a comic number built around Olaf experiencing his first crush, extending the running Samantha joke from Frozen II into a full musical moment. The room, by every account, adored it.

A wedding, then the most dangerous trip yet

The story setup is classic Frozen architecture: joy first, then the ice cracks. After the wedding, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven set out on what the presentation described as their most dangerous adventure yet. Footage shown only to the D23 audience followed a magical butterfly guiding Elsa toward an aurora that opens like a portal into a mysterious frozen realm, where the group meets a shadowy new villain whose powers may rival Elsa’s own.

That last detail is the smartest choice in the film. Elsa has never faced an equal. Every Frozen story so far has been about her power as a gift she had to accept; a rival who matches it turns the question outward, and gives Menzel something genuinely new to play opposite Bell’s warmth.

Two films, one story

Disney is producing Frozen 3 alongside Frozen 4, which strongly suggests one connected story told across both films. That is a confident bet, but the franchise has earned it, and filming the pair together lets the creative team plant payoffs years apart without losing cast or momentum.
