Denmark’s beloved former queen just had a weekend to remember.
Her Majesty Queen Margrethe received a very special honorary prize on Saturday as ALT for damernes — Denmark’s cherished women’s weekly — celebrated its 80th anniversary with a gala at the Opera House in Copenhagen.
The prize was actually presented a few days earlier, at a short reception at Fredensborg Palace. Editor-in-chief Heidi Frederikke Sigdal arrived bearing a remarkable gift: weekly magazines from across all 80 years of ALT’s history, which the Queen browsed through with great delight.
Artist and clothing designer Nikoline Liv Andersen added her own tribute, presenting the original of her artwork “Dronning Margrethe” — the piece that graces the cover of ALT’s 80th anniversary issue.
In her speech, Sigdal praised the way Margrethe carried out the office of regent “with respect, innovation and Her Majesty’s very own style” — a tribute that drew warm applause both at Fredensborg and again at the Opera House.
For Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe, the moment carries a special resonance: his grandmother, Princess Feodora of Denmark, made the Danish royal family part of his own family story. Congratulations to Her Majesty on a truly well-deserved honor.
