Meet The Award Winning 360 VR Entertainment Grande Dame Katharine Watford Cook

The Southern California Motion Picture Council presented its highest honor the Golden Halo Award to VR Visionary and Entertainment Lady Katharine Watford Cook.

Katharine Watford Cook joins an illustrious list of Hollywood greats with her receipt of the Golden Halo Award from the Southern California Motion Picture Council. Established in 1936, the sought-after award has been given to people like Bob Hope, Howard Hughes, Lucille Ball, and John Travolta. Lifetime Achievement Award Winner and Hollywood-Royal His Highness Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe nominated Katharine for their highest honor so the Council can update the award with a 360 VR category by recognizing Katharine as an early visionary who tirelessly persisted in her goal of bringing 360 VR technology to the Hollywood Studio marketplace.

“I am not going to name any names,” says Katharine, “but I went through a lot to get attention to  360 degree virtual reality which was just the newest thing in Hollywood whilst I offered it already at a professional level.”

Universal Studios was the first to hire Katharine and her new cutting-edge technology on the films Inception and Snow White And The Huntsman, but due to the nature of the locations of the scenes that the studio were requesting, it was not a feasible option. Then, after numerous meetings with Lionsgate, Katharine was hired to be the first person to direct and produce 360 VR on a Hollywood movie, starting with the Hunger Games titles Catching Fire, Mockingjay 1, Mockingjay 2, then Insurgent and Now You See Me 2. Katharine then went on to produce and advance 360 VR multi-camera live event streaming.

“This award means a lot to me, and I think it means a lot for all the women in tech to be recognized for our contributions to the movie industry.”

Katharine is the founder and CEO of Generate Entertainment & Productions Inc, which continues to push the envelope in technology and entertainment.
