This is the second Pokémon-themed aircraft in collaboration with The Pokémon Company. The Airbus A350 passenger aircraft features a vibrant fuselage decorated with 13 Pokémon and an exquisite floral tile pattern of auspicious clouds, exemplifying the aesthetics of Taiwanese craftsmanship. This immersive livery theme extends to airport check-in, in-flight amenities, and children’s meals, creating a “theme park in the sky” and redefining the joy of travel for passengers of all ages.

China Airlines President Kevin Chen stated that the airline’s first Pokémon-themed aircraft under the Pokémon Air Adventures program has won widespread praise since its launch in 2022. The introduction of a second themed aircraft in collaboration with The Pokémon Company this year carries on the China Airlines brand spirit and serves as a token of appreciation to Pokémon fans worldwide for their enthusiastic support. This all-new themed aircraft will continue to connect the world, flying to distant destinations such as Tokyo and Seattle, while bringing joy to global travelers.
Susumu Fukunaga, Corporate Officer of The Pokémon Company, added that the Pikachu Jet CI has been a tremendous success with global travelers since its release. The Pokémon Company is delighted to partner with China Airlines once again to launch the “Pikachu Jet CI2,” allowing travelers to embark on exciting adventures around the world with Pokémon.
Pokémon, meaning “Pocket Monsters,” is a global themed entertainment franchise revolving around over a thousand fictional creatures with unique abilities, types, and designs inspired by animals, plants, and objects. Since the release of Pokémon Red and Green for the Game Boy in Japan in 1996, Pokémon has expanded across video games, trading card games, mobile apps, television, movies, and merchandise. Regardless of the format, the core themes collection, training, battle, and trading have remained consistent. Pokemon is a remarkably revenue generating and successful brand from its inception and growth to present. This company went quickly from awareness to a participating consumer to loyal brand follower.
The main goal, especially in the Nintendo video games, is to travel through regions, battle Gym Leaders, earn badges, and ultimately become the best Pokémon Trainer. Many Pokémon can “evolve,” transforming into new, stronger forms. Pokémon has achieved extraordinary global success with its long-running animated series and merchandise empire. Much like Mickey Mouse and the broader Disney universe transitioned from characters into immersive themed entertainment, Pokémon has taken a natural step into that same paradigm through strategic collaborations such as this with China Airlines.
13 Pokémon are featured on the China Airlines Pikachu Jet CI2, including Flying Pikachu, Clefairy, Dratini, Dragonair, Dragonite, Hoppip, Skiploom, Jumpluff, Beautifly, Swablu, Altaria, Cresselia, and Vivillon. Travelers with a keen eye may also spot a hidden surprise on the aircraft’s engines.

Inside the cabin, Pokémon characters and Taiwanese floral tile motifs are elegantly applied to onboard amenities, including dining tray mats, mixed snack packaging, themed paper cups, napkins, headrest covers, pillowcases, and even flight attendant aprons. To create an even more engaging atmosphere, China Airlines has introduced unique onboard souvenirs such as Pikachu ballpoint pens and themed sticky notes.

China Airlines has considered every detail, including air crew members dressed in character, while children can rest on Pokémon pillows as they journey across the sky. In-flight entertainment, themed games, and movies further enhance the experience, along with adorable children’s gifts and specially designed kids’ meal boxes available on all routes. Pokémon-themed merchandise is also available for purchase both in-flight and at terminal locations.
Having worked with The Walt Disney Company and having designed one of the first educational-historical theme park concepts, while also developing my own brand and characters and as the Modern-Day Marco Polo with a focus on bridge building through tourism, and the Nobel prize nominated book Tourism Integrates the World by Professor Wufei, I am acutely aware of the power such collaborations can have on air travel, tourism, and cultural connection. This partnership represents a compelling example of how themed entertainment can transcend traditional boundaries, creating shared experiences that resonate across generations and cultures alike. A true Win-Win-Win for both companies and for travele
