Turkish Cinema and Diplomacy Dazzle at the Turkish Film & TV Industry Showcase Reception
An elegant evening at the fabulous Turkish House in New York celebrated film, culture, and international friendship.
On a crisp Manhattan evening, the Turkish Film and TV Industry Showcase Reception illuminated the Turkish House at 821 United Nations Plaza with an atmosphere of elegance, diplomacy, and artistic celebration.
The event, hosted by His Excellency Ambassador and Consul General Muhittin Ahmet Yazal of the Republic of Türkiye, brought together an extraordinary gathering of distinguished guests, diplomats, and cultural figures from across the globe. His Excellency is a master connector, most knowledgeable about Turkiye and an outstanding diplomat caring for the prosperity and friendship of his country and the USA. He shared his vision building bridges and amazing opportunities for US companies in Tyrkiye and vice versa. Those span in every area, from textile to hightech and the embassy has a network that makes these connections and sourcing business contacts easy.
Among those in attendance was H.H. Dr. Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe, invited by New York’s star event photographer and photojournalist Andrew Simon and thanks to NY master-connector and diplomat Sofija Sretenovic. Known for his exquisite coverage of elite society events, Andrew Simon has long been a fixture in the city’s most exclusive circles, his artistry refined through his years working alongside photography legend Patrick McMullan and representing leading PR houses such as Norah Lawlor Media. His lens, always attuned to the essence of a gathering, captured the evening’s spirit of unity and sophistication. The quality of his pictures is over the tops – always!
The Turkish House, standing majestically beside the United Nations headquarters, served as the perfect setting for an event that bridged cinema, diplomacy, and culture. The building itself is a triumph of modern architecture and national pride, designed to express Türkiye’s openness and strength on the global stage. Rising high above the East River, it symbolizes both tradition and progress — a space where Turkish identity meets international dialogue. Inside, guests were met with a blend of contemporary design and subtle nods to Ottoman heritage, from the intricate woodwork to the refined hospitality that greeted every visitor.
The evening began with a warm welcome from Ambassador Yazal, whose gracious presence reflected the charm and diplomatic finesse for which Turkish envoys are known. His address underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy and the role of film and television in promoting understanding between nations. The Turkish film industry, with its deep storytelling tradition and global reach, continues to resonate with audiences far beyond its borders.
Guests included a vibrant mix of international dignitaries, creative professionals, and entrepreneurs. Emre Ismailogly, representing Turkish Airlines as General Manager in New York, spoke proudly about the airline’s more than ten international destinations linking the United States with Türkiye — connections that symbolize not just travel but cultural exchange. His enthusiasm mirrored the evening’s theme: bridging worlds through art, commerce, and conversation. And a big bonus he also shared his personal best Turkish eateries list with me so there is a lot of great food from one of my favorite places to discover!
Also present was Pia Bozyel, who extended a gracious invitation to H.H. Dr. Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe to visit her La Belle Tasse café, a space known for its European refinement and Turkish warmth. Their discussion, rich with ideas about hospitality and the art of coffee culture, was a reminder that cultural appreciation often begins with a shared table.
Samat Umirzakov of the Global New York Chamber of Commerce delivered a captivating speech introducing the Chamber’s international initiatives. His address acknowledged the distinguished audience — a blend of diplomats, entrepreneurs, and artists — and celebrated the partnership between New York and Türkiye as an example of cultural and economic synergy. His words echoed with optimism about global collaboration and mutual respect.
The evening also welcomed the insightful presence of Sylvia, known affectionately as the Carnivore Coach, whose expertise in nutrition and private banking has made her a sought-after voice among Manhattan’s elite. She shared thoughtful insights about wellness and lifestyle, bringing a touch of intellectual energy to the cocktail hour. Her work with the new Chase Manhattan Bank tower reflects the city’s ongoing evolution — modern, dynamic, and forward-looking.
Adding to the international spirit, Jiovan Halstead MSc, BSc, from the Jamaican Mission in New York, shared heartfelt news about Jamaica and its ongoing recovery from the recent storm. His words of resilience and community added depth to the evening, a reminder of the interconnectedness of nations and the shared humanity that underpins global gatherings like this one.
Among the many distinguished attendees was also Paul James Clark, representing the Global New York Chamber of Commerce, whose thoughtful conversations reflected a keen interest in international relations and global entrepreneurship. His insights contributed to the evening’s intellectual richness and further strengthened the ties between New York’s business community and its international counterparts.
The room’s energy was unmistakably global yet warmly personal — conversations flowing in multiple languages, laughter echoing across the room, and a shared admiration for Türkiye’s cinematic achievements. The event also welcomed HH. Jaime Eduardo de Borbon, recently returned to New York from his race car driving pursuits, whose arrival added a note of European glamour to the gathering.
As the evening continued, Turkish hospitality took center stage. Guests were treated to an array of exquisite dishes that celebrated the country’s culinary heritage. From delicate meze platters to savory kebabs and rich desserts infused with pistachio and honey, every flavor spoke of the country’s warmth and generosity. Turkish tea was served in its traditional tulip-shaped glassware, offering both comfort and ceremony, while fine Turkish coffee closed the meal with its unmistakable aroma and heritage.
The reception, co-presented by the Global New York Chamber of Commerce, Atlantic Studio Capital, and Marketing House New York, represented a collaboration between culture and commerce. It reflected the shared vision of fostering creative exchange between Türkiye and the United States through film, television, and entrepreneurship.
Turkish House, or Türkevi as it is known in Turkish, is itself a symbol of the nation’s evolving identity in the twenty-first century. Overlooking the East River and the United Nations complex, it is a building designed to embody Türkiye’s values — strength, beauty, and global engagement. Every architectural detail, from its glass façade to its luminous interiors, invites dialogue and connection.
For those who attended, the evening was not merely a showcase of an industry but a celebration of friendship and respect between nations. Turkish culture, with its balance of tradition and modernity, art and intellect, hospitality and vision, was on full display. The nation’s television and film sector, now among the world’s most influential, continues to win audiences across continents with its distinctive storytelling, emotional resonance, and artistic excellence.
As conversations lingered and the evening drew to a close, guests left the Turkish House inspired by the warmth and sophistication that define Türkiye’s presence on the global stage. The event succeeded in its purpose — to honor the creative spirit, strengthen international ties, and celebrate the beauty of cultural expression.
In a city where every night brings new opportunity for connection, the Turkish Film & TV Industry Showcase Reception stood out as a testament to the enduring power of diplomacy through art. It was a night of ideas, elegance, and genuine goodwill — an evening that reminded everyone present that culture remains one of the most eloquent languages of peace.
